Entertainment Fever!....as we countdown to the Durban July weekend

There is no doubt that the Vodacom Durban July fever has finally hit the Durban waves and the atmosphere is also trending on social networks. Folks from other Provinces are already giving hints about their dates of arrival and the talks about fashion is the vibe!

Now to add on to the vibe, there are plenty of gigs/events/parties that are lined up in and around Durban as we countdown to the Posh Oh my Gosh! themed weekend on the 13th July 2013! Yazi whenever I hear about this theme I just think of these typical rich and blonde girls that only stress about looking posh everyday...your Paris Hilton type. To some extent, it also makes me think of the elegant Marilyn Monroe.( hint! hint! in case you were still confused about the theme)

Here are some of the cool events/ hangout spots to consider for the next two weeks just before the official July weekend.

1. Food Fashion Music

A night of Intimacy with multi-award winning Jazz vocalist and Gospel musician Swazi Dlamini

The incomparable jazz musician and producer Swazi Dlamini is bringing the second leg of her Full Circle Tour to Durban this July. She is celebrating 10 years of her successful music career since the release of her debut album My first love.

After the success of her kick-off show which took place in Cape Town just a week ago, you certainly don't want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk down memory lane with this Diva eseshaya adume ngazo esethi "Yekela ukuganga", "I am an African" and my all-time favourite "I've got something" as well as some songs from her forthcoming Full Circle album due out August this year.

More than 10 years in the music scene has afforded Swazi the opportunity to work with some of the greatest musicians in the country including Ernie Smith, Sibongile Khumalo, Mthunzi Namba, Gloria Bosman, Judith Sephuma and the list is endless. Also under her belt is Shammah Records, a record label which she co-owns with her husband and violinist Tshepo Mngoma.

Through a short interview, this is what Dlamini shared with Evolution of Fashion, Style and Events:

1. Over ten years of constant success, how did you make it?

SD: I'd say lots of hard work, passion, dedication and prayer. The support from friends, family and fans. It looks like its constant success, but I've had my fair share of challenges and I am still standing because God is my anchor.

2. What has been your greatest achievement so far?

SD: I cant single out one thing in particular, from meeting all 3 post apartheid presidents of our country, to the awards, to having people celebrate their joys, pains and to really feeling like a free spirit, being able to use my voice creatively to change people's lives. Empowering other artists through Swazitainment the list is somewhat endless, every experience is special.

3. Apart from this tour, what else are you currently working on?

SD: I am in studio working on what seems to be a double album due out August 2013, which officially marks 10 years of a solo  singing career, calling it Full Circle. I have been singing professionally for 15 years though.

4. Do you have other talent(s) that people are not aware of ? Because I know just one... and I am not going to tell..lol.

SD: I am a gourmet cook, I sometimes make my own clothing, I am a mean baker. I'm an artsy person through and through...I wonder which one of the above you were referring to...lol.

5. Without revealing too much, what can Durban expect from your two-day show?

SD: A full on Swazi Dlamini experience, everything you know me for and a little of what you don't know. There will be some take me back moments, some sneak peak into the Full Circle album. I am going back as far as my songs from Joyous Celebration on this one..its a whole package, the Full Circle.
